As I’ve discussed in previous articles and on the NLSC Podcast, however, I’ve lost interest in the mode following the new approach that was adopted in NBA 2K14. I had a lot of fun playing M圜AREER in NBA 2K13, so much so that I ended up maintaining a story thread about it. While franchise modes have traditionally been my bag, and I’ve taken a greater interest in the card collecting modes in recent years, I would like to get more involved in M圜AREER again.

On the other hand, many of their performances were notoriously and hilariously bad, as discussed in an article over on Cracked a couple of years ago.
On one hand, this was an improvement over similar cutscenes in NBA 2K14, in which the MyPLAYER character was voiced while the NBA players’ dialogue was just text. The story of how you make it to the league featured cameos from NBA players who acted as mentors, with the real players voicing their virtual counterparts in cutscenes. The game also continued the story-driven M圜AREER concept, becoming the first game in which you didn’t start your rookie season on opening night. It was the first time that the PlayStation 4/Xbox One version was ported to PC, and the first PC release to be available exclusively through Steam with no disc-based physical copies. NBA 2K15 stands out as quite a noteworthy game in the NBA 2K series. This week, I’m taking a look back at the mentors in NBA 2K15’s M圜AREER. You’ll also find old NLSC editorials re-published with added commentary, and other flashback content. I’ve wondered what it was like though, and to that end, I picked up a copy of NBA 2K15 for PS3 to check out. Simply put, there wasn’t much reason to cover it, and I personally stopped buying NBA 2K on that generation. We covered both the last gen PC port and Next Gen version of NBA 2K14 following the launch of the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, and then when the PC received a PS4/X1 port from NBA 2K15 onwards, we simply left the prior gen behind. When it landed on PC, it was the same version that the 360 and PS3 received (give or take an online feature).

When NBA Live was discontinued on PC, and then PS2 a year later, we only had the 360 and PS3 version to cover. At the time we were still more or less exclusively about NBA Live PC, but we now had two generations to cover: the PlayStation 2/Xbox version, which we covered because it was the one that was ported to PC, and the Next Gen version on the new consoles, as it was the release receiving the most attention from EA Sports. Way back in the mid 2000s, the launch of the Xbox 360 (and then the PlayStation 3) forced us to change our approach to our content and coverage. This week, I’m taking a look back at NBA 2K15 on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, part of a forgotten generation of NBA 2K titles.
